Q&A with Chandler Noah of En Viu
Behind the Curtains of Their Artistry and Creation of Dropcloth, A Serene Dream Digital Wallcovering
We are delighted to spotlight Chandler Noah, co-founder and co-designer at En Viu, who created our latest digital wallcovering, Dropcloth. This masterpiece premiered at our 2024 HD Expo booth and beautifully captured our overarching 'Serenity That Stimulates' aesthetic theme. En Viu is celebrated for its innovative design approach, merging historical and futuristic artistic expressions with practical elegance. Noah's work exemplifies the cutting-edge possibilities in commercial hospitality design.
At the show, we caught up with Chandler to discuss his creative partnership with co-founder Diego Castaño, the inspiration for Dropcloth's debut design, and what the future holds for En Viu.
Can you share with us the inspiration behind your Dropcloth design?
Chandler Noah: Our inspiration for Dropcloth stems from contemplation, the sky, and the accidental marking found in the studio. We aimed for open interpretation, blending figuration with abstraction and incorporating both loose and architectural lines. A piece that feels contemplative and energizing.
Could you walk us through your design process? How do you go from an initial concept to the final product?
Chandler: Our design process typically begins with a narrative or written concept, followed by sketching, iterating, and mood boarding to refine the idea.
How do you and Diego collaborate on a project like this? What strengths do each of you bring to the table?
Chandler: Our collaboration combines Chandler's expertise in design, composition, stemming from his background in art and architecture, with Diego's vision and passion for art making, storytelling, and art history.
En Viu aims to create art as a physical and emotional experience. How do hope your Dropcloth wallcovering affected viewers at HD Expo?
Chandler: At the HD Expo, we aimed to create an immersive and inspiring experience for viewers, an artwork that viewers could get lost in.
Do you have a favorite playlist you listen to when painting?
Chandler: When painting, we often turn to film scores for inspiration, especially those from directors like Lars Von Trier or David Fincher. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are among our favorite composers.
What city has brought you the most inspiration in past year?
Chandler: Splitting our time between NYC and Barcelona, both cities offer constant inspiration. Additionally, collaborating with artists from our gallery Newchild in Antwerp, Belgium, adds to our creative process.
What impact do you hope this wallcovering will have on designers?
Chandler: We hope to infuse the world of wallcoverings with artfulness, playfulness, and the artist's hand, encouraging designers to take risks and to have fun.
Where can designers find you online?
